A comienzos de siglo XX el tren llegó a Anglés. Hasta el 1969 fue uno de los principales medios de comunicación. El tren transportaba personas y mercancías. Comunicaba Anglés con las villas vecinas y con las capitales, Girona y Olot.

Cuando el tren desapareció, en 1969, dejó su camino que, finalmente, fue adaptado para el uso cívico de peatones y ciclistas. Dio lugar a la Vía Verde.

La Vía Verde atraviesa parajes de gran importancia paisajística, ecológica y cultural. Se inicia en la Zona Volcánica de la Garrotxa y, siempre siguiendo el recorrido del antiguo tren de vía estrecha, llega hasta el valle del Ter y las dehesas de Salt y Girona.
